Day of Survival

I knew it was going to be a tough day when we found we had a 1:20 tee time and the temperature was going to be 105 degrees with 100% humidity. We had a plan to drink water every hole and eat every two holes to keep up our energy level. Richy did benefit from not having to carry what felt like a lead weighted golf bag. We tried to keep our cool by staying in the shade when possible, and at one point Richy even tried to cool off his golf ball off by hitting it in the water on the eight hole. However, he made a good up and down to save a bogey after hitting it into the water.
What became a bigger test of survival was not having our "A "game and struggling to get the ball in the hole without having our "A" game. Bobby Jones always said the secret to golf was "to find a way to turn 2 shots into 1" Fortunately we were able to do that without our A game by: course management, great putting, rationalizing everything to a positive, and having 8 out of 11 up and downs after only hitting 7 greens.
With a round of 74 today that puts us in 36 place out of 156. If we can shoot another solid round tomorrow we should be in good position to make the match play.
